Aaron AvrilPresident, Society of Physics Students I was first attracted to physics in high school as an excuse to launch a variety of objects large distances, but quickly came to love the subject as an extension of my intuition about how things work which also provides me with sophisticated problems to solve. I continue to enjoy both motivators. I'm in my senior year, rounding out my physics major with a math degree and several useful courses outside my majors. I'm spending this quarter working with Boris in the UW trapped ion lab, teaching myself how to program efficiently, and applying to graduate schools.

Andrew SpottVice President, Society of Physics Students Andrew Spott grew up in California before coming to the University of Washington to pursue a Computer Engineering degree. After taking a particularly interesting Physics class, he switched his major to Physics and took a year off to do research at the Applied Physics Lab on campus. He is now back in school and plans to graduate in 2010.

John KrahPublic Relations, Society of Physics Students Hi! I'm a senior in the physics program, planning to graduate June 2010. I'm also a software+services development engineer by trade and hobby. Combining these two skill sets I'm currently working on a research project with Professor Seidler related to wavelength dispersive xray spectrometry. For fun I like to race motorcycles (on the track, not the street!) and practice swimming/bicycling/running for triathlon season. Cheers!

Zak WebbSecretary, Society of Physics Students I'm Zak Webb, and I'm your SPS treasurer this year. Right now I'm a long haired, hawaiian shirt wearing junior here at UW, and I'm planning on triple majoring in Physics, Math, and Computer Science (although Physics is by far the most important one). I grew up in Oak Harbor, WA, (on the north end of Whidbey Island, about 2 hours drive from Seattle), and graduated from Oak Harbor High School. I've worked for Starbucks for several years (since high school), and as such, have grown to adore coffee in its most pure form (i.e black, from a french press); I'm a bit of a coffee snob. I also work as a physics tutor for CLUE, so if you come in for some help, you might see me there.
