The Theoretical Division at Los Alamos
National Laboratory invites
applications from outstanding junior physicists for a possible
limited term staff position in the area of Non-Equilibrium Field Theory,
QCD, and
Relativistic Heavy-Ion (RHIC) Physics, to begin in the fall of 2001.
Limited Term Staff Members (LTSM's) are hired at Los Alamos for a
term not to exceed five years. Contingent upon satisfactory performance,
the expectation is that the LTSM will be promoted to a full LANL
technical staff member (TSM) in either T-8 (Elementary Particles
and
Field Theory) or T-16 (Nuclear Physics) before the end of that term.
Applications from more senior physicists for a possible full TSM
appointment may be considered in exceptional cases.
Required Skill, Knowledge, and Abilities:
The candidate must have a Ph. D. and strong background in theoretical particle
physics, field theory and/or nuclear physics, and be knowledgeable about
all
aspects of current approaches to the strong interactions, from QCD to relativistic
heavy-ion phenomenology. The candidate should be familiar with non-equilibrium
methods in field theory and statistical physics, and interested both in
doing
first rate theoretical research in collaboration with present members of
T-8 and T-16, as well as maintaining close contact with physicists
in P-25 involved in the PHENIX experiment at BNL/RHIC.
Desired Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities:
The candidate should be able to interact and communicate well with both
theorists and experimentalists in a broad interdisciplinary environment.
He/she should be willing to organize a joint T/P seminar series in
Non-Equilibrium Field Theory, QCD, and Relativistic Heavy-Ion
Physics, and take the lead in forging closer ties between the current
experimental and theoretical efforts at Los Alamos in this area.
The candidate's flexibility for the possibility of spending several
months a year at the BNL RIKEN Center is also desirable.
To Apply:
Please send three or more letters of reference from senior physicists
familiar with your work, an up to date Curriculum Vitae and Publication
List,
and One Page Research Proposal outlining the direction of research you
would like to pursue at Los Alamos to:
