How to use an underground lab
| This is
where the state of South Dakota finds out if there's a market for its
new underground laboratory. What's being called the Homestake
Scientific Collaboration Workshop is being held this week in Lead. The
South Dakota Science and Technology Authority has recieved over 70
letters showing interest in research at the mine. One researcher,
Nikolai Tolich, says the mine has everything he and his research team
need. It is a long way away from any potential sources of stray
radiation, such as nuclear power plants, and it is deep enough to avoid
the natural radiation from space and from the atmosphere. The Workship
continues through Saturday.
