Ultracold Atoms and Molecules Research

at the University of Washington

We are currently constructing a two-species apparatus for cooling lithium and ytterbium atoms (schematic shown). We will load dual MOTs from independent Zeeman-slowed atomic beams. The laser cooled atoms will be loaded into a common far-detuned optical trap for further cooling towards quantum degeneracy. Using field-induced scattering resonances, we plan to investigate quantum mixtures and polar molecules from these ultracold atoms.
