Overview

The November 2002 PI meeting in Seattle caps the 3rd year of our CMSN Project. We will be dicussing progress that has been made as well as new directions and budget requests for FY 2003 in preparation for the upcoming review.

Most important for the attendees will be to bring a detailed summary of all budgets requests for FY 2003. We will need names of postdocs, along with their expected salaries, as well as any travel expenses. Please be as complete and as specific as possible.

Accomodations

We have a block of rooms reserved at the University Inn. It is a nice hotel located 10 minutes away. To insure a room and get the discount rate ($90+14.04tax=$104.04/night), you must make your reservation before October 18, mentioning the "CMSN meeting" Room Block. Please note that November 9th is a UW football weekend. As the 9th of November approaches, your chances of getting a room in the University area will decrease dramatically.

Plan for an 9:00AM start on Saturday.

University Inn telephone numbers: 800-733-3855 or 206-632-5055

Directions

Driving directions from SeaTac Airport to the University of Washington and University Inn

As you exit the airport, follow the signs marked "To Freeways". You want the road that goes to I-5 North (518) which you will get by keeping to the right as you exit the airport. After exiting onto WA-518, keep left in preparation for the exit to I-5 North. The signs are big and well-placed, so you shouldn't have any trouble finding I-5 North.

Take I-5 North towards Seattle. It will take about 15-20 minutes to get to downtown Seattle (expect heavy traffic between 3:30pm and 6pm!). Follow I-5 through downtown. Get in the right lane after passing downtown and watch for the 45th Street/Univ. of Washington exit (Exit #169). Exit to the right on 45th Eastbound.

Now you have a choice:

  • 1) If your destination is the University Inn: Go about 2 blocks east on 45th and make a right turn onto Roosevelt Ave. The University Inn is about 3 blocks down on the left, on the corner of Roosevelt and NE 42nd St.
  • 2) If your destination is the University of Washington: Go about 8 blocks to 15th Ave NE. Turn right (south) and drive 3 big blocks down to the big brick (underground) parking garage at about 41st St. Turn left into the garage. The attendant will give you a one day visitor parking permit for about $5 and a map of the campus if you ask for one. Physics is the huge structure at the corner of 15th Ave NE and NE Pacific, which is just a couple of big blocks further south along 15th. It's a fairly new brick building with a copper top.
