Workshop overview

At the October 2004 meeting in Seattle, we are looking forward to seeing progress on previous projects as well as new ideas for future work.

The meeting format will be similar to 2003 meeting. To continue to deliver easily accessible information to interested parties, we will again be asking each participant to prepare in advance a two-page write-up accompanied by a one page figure or graphic in a standard .html format according to a Sample Report and described below. The sample file is documented in-line and can serve as a template. To download the source file, right-click on the link and click "Save Target As..."

At the meeting we will also need the following:

**Team Leaders: We need from the Leaders of each of our three Teams (Rehr, Louie, and Chelikowsky and/or their respective co-leaders, Shirley, Benedict, and Pantelides) a short list of the major goals and progress for each Team, how they relate to the overall goals of the project. It's important to emphasize the coherence of our effort, despite the large number of different projects.

**Team Members (including leaders):

We need from each member the following items in a standard.html format,

a) A short title, author list, and address
b) A short statement of an objective. A brief description of each project is given here, which should be reviewed and updated.
c) An extended abstract NOT TO EXCEED 2 pages of your project which includes the following items:

Accomodations

The meeting will be held at the Physics Department at the University of Washington, Seattle:
Best Western University Tower Hotel Hotel's website
4507 Brooklyn Ave NE
Seattle, WA 98105
Phone: 206-634-2000
Fax: 206-545-2103

Please call the hotel as soon as possible to reserve your room. Make sure to tell the staff that you're part of "Excited States Fall 2004" or they won't give us the group rate.

Directions and Transportation

  • Directions to the hotel.
    • Getting from the airport to the hotel: Your best bet is either to take the shuttle service or a taxi. See below. See the link above for the hotel's own directions.
    • The shuttle service website is here -- you don't HAVE to make reservations on your way in to Seattle, but it's smart to do so on your way out.
    • Public transit: catch the #194 bus from Seatac airport to downtown Seattle. From there you can catch bus 71, 71, or 73 to the UW campus, and from there it's a short walk to the hotel. Seattle's bus website (with a nice trip planner) is here.
    • Keep the hotel's address handy! You'll need it, no matter which of these forms of transit you take.
  • Directions from hotel to the UW Physics Building:
    • Walk east (away from the highway) on 45th.
    • Turn right on 15th street, and head south. You are now skirting the western edge of the UW campus.
    • The Physics and Astronomy building is the tall building on the corner of 15th and Pacific.
    • Campus map
