Society Of Physics Students

The Society of Physics Students (SPS) is an organization of physics majors and others with a special interest in physics and related areas. Through its occasional meetings and other activities it provides a base for academic and social contacts among physics students at different levels. It provides a forum for student discussion of matters of concern to them and to the Physics Department, and one route by which student viewpoints can be presented. Its programs aim at providing its members with information of interest on developments in physics, opportunities for students, and prospects for physicists on a broad scale. Room B135 in the Physics/Astronomy Building serves as an informal gathering point and study area for undergraduates as well as a meeting room for the SPS.

The University of Washington SPS is a chapter of the national Society of Physics Students. Membership provides a natural starting point for students who anticipate later membership in the two principal professional societies in physics, the American Association of Physics Teachers and the American Physical Society, or in more specialized professional societies in physics. Dues-paying members receive the national SPS newsletter and a subscription to Physics Today along with some additional benefits.

Further information about SPS can be obtained from the chapter adviser or from the current officers or from the UW SPS Web site.
