UW Condensed Matter/Biophysics Faculty Search
The Department of Physics
and the College of Engineering
at the
University of Washington
seek to fill multiple experimental faculty
positions in condensed matter physics, biological physics,
and related nano-scale engineering.
Appointments at the Assistant or Associate Professor rank are anticipated. Appointments at the full Professor rank may be considered for exceptional candidates.
Areas of particular interest include:
- nanodynamics and single molecule dynamics,
- electronic, photonic or plasmonic materials and devices,
- optics.
Some faculty positions will involve
joint appointments between Physics and related departments
(such as Bioengineering, Materials Science, or Electrical Engineering).
Successful candidates will be expected to participate in undergraduate
and graduate teaching and to develop innovative, vigorous,
externally-funded research programs.
Our goal is to fill at least three positions with outstanding people
who will have overlapping synergistic interests,
are sure to be future leaders in their fields,
and whose
research efforts will complement and strengthen current
research programs at the University of Washington.
A small sampling of potentially related current activities
at the University of Washington include:
Mitotic spindle dynamics (C. Asbury, Physiology & Biophysics)
Nanodevice physics (D. Cobden, Physics)
Nanopore physics (J. Gundlach, Physics)
Nanophotonics (M. Hochberg, Electrical Engineering)
Photonics (L. Lin, Electrical Engineering)
Heteroepitaxial growth (M. Olmstead, Physics)
Nano-optics (M. Raschke, Chemistry)
Glycomics (D. Ratner, Bioengineering)
Sensory signal processing (F. Rieke, Physiology & Biophysics)
Nanoscale charge transport (M. Rolandi, Materials Science & Engineering)
DNA nanotechnology (G. Seelig, Electrical Engineering & Computer Science)
Applications may be submitted at
http://papyrus.phys.washington.edu/phys/search/cmbio2009.
Priority will be given to applications received by December 15, 2009.
The University of Washington is an affirmative action, equal
opportunity employer.
The University is building a culturally-diverse faculty and
strongly encourages applications from female and minority candidates.
