Welcome to the Lecture Demonstration Facility at the University of Washington Department of Physics! This online version of our demonstration list is intended to give you more access to information, allow you to search more quickly, and reduce paper consumption. It is an adaptation of the list first written by Brett Carroll. It is our primary purpose to provide useful, intelligible, and pedagogically sound demonstrations for our faculty. It is our firm belief that interesting and enlightening demonstrations are an integral part of any effective lecture. We have over 1000 demonstrations in a broad range of topics that we can prepare for your use. This list comprises many of the most commonly requested items, but is too short to document the entire range of demonstrations available.
Please take some time to read the descriptions of the demonstrations available. If you have questions, or would like to reserve a demonstration for one of your classes, contact us by email or at the telephone numbers listed below. In general, a day or two of advance notice is best. More importantly, you can arrange to come in early to practice. This will help you get the most out of the demonstration, and quite likely save you some time and embarrassment during class. With short notice, we cannot promise to fulfill your request. However, we will always try our best with the time that we have.
Also, if you have an idea or suggestion of any kind--new demonstrations, improving older demonstrations, the layout of the website, or whatnot--please let us know. Updating and expanding our selection of demonstrations and services is a very important part of our efforts.
