Admission Requirements
Applicants should have an undergraduate degree in a physical science, engineering, mathematics or computer science (or related disciplines) and an
average GPA of 3.0 in relevant undergraduate physical science courses. Applicants whose native language is not English must demonstrate English language
proficiency. The ways in which proficiency can be demonstrated are outlined in Memo
8: Graduate School English Language Proficiency Requirements.
Application Materials
Applicants must submit a resume, a statement of purpose outlining personal goals motivating pursuit of the Evening MS degree (The statement of purpose is
used only for advising and guidance and is not intended as a writing test) and transcripts from prior schools. GRE scores are not required (or considered).
Application Instructions
Materials are submitted electronically through the Graduate School's website at
https://www.grad.washington.edu/applForAdmiss/.
Applicants who are not pursuing a degree as a Graduate Non-Matriculated (GNM)
(SEE: http://www.grad.washington.edu/admissions/gnm.shtml) but wish to take individual courses
are not charged an application fee. In many cases applicants whose undergraduate preparation does not appear to meet our admission criteria may be advised to
try taking the core courses as a GNM. If their grades are adequate, they may be admitted later and transfer up to 12 GNM credits into their MS program.
Student Status Options
A Matriculated Student has received admission to the graduate program and is earning credits toward a master's degree. Matriculated students are
required to maintain continuous enrollment (or be officially on-leave) during the academic year (Au, W, Sp) to maintain student status. Failure to enroll during
the academic year without applying for on-leave status will require re-application. However, to avoid this, students can request on-leave status any quarter, by
submitting an online form.
Graduate Nonmatriculated (GNM) Student Status
GNM status provides access to graduate courses for those who are not currently seeing a graduate degree, but who may later want to apply these credits (up to 12)
toward our graduate program. Acceptance as a GNM student confers no guarantee or priority for later admission to the Graduate School for pursuit of a degree program.
To maintain GNM status, the student must apply for GNM admission and enroll for the quarter in which they applied. Accepted students will not lose their GNM status
unless they miss four consecutive quarters of registration.
